Recipes For Connection
Nourishing neighbourhood knowledge through story, food, and care (Activating September 2026)

Want to be part of Recipes for Connection?
Recipes for Connection is a free community event where neighbours are invited to share recipes, stories, traditions, and small acts of care with one another.
We’re looking for neighbours and local partners to help bring the activation to life in September 2026: whether that’s sharing a recipe or story, doing a recipe demonstration, connecting us with neighbours, partnering as a community/cultural/food organization, offering in-kind support, or helping the recipe cards find their way back into the neighbourhood.
At a time when many people are feeling isolated, burnt out, or disconnected, Recipes for Connection is about slowing down, meeting neighbours, and creating space for the kinds of human knowledge and care that technology cannot replace. With inspiration from mycelium networks, the underground fungal systems that help forests share nutrients and stay connected, the project explores how people also support each other through stories, knowledge, food, rituals, and care.
Participants’ recipe cards will become part of a growing public wall installation that visitors can browse throughout the day. Large inflatable mushroom sculptures created by Vancouver Design Nerds will help create a playful and welcoming gathering space. The event will also include a few simple recipe demonstrations and tastings shared by neighbours and/or local food businesses, with printed recipe cards available for people to take home.
After the events, selected recipes and stories will be compiled and turned into small printed zines and neighbourhood takeaways to share through little libraries and community spaces.
We’d love to hear from YOU!
