Background
Foundry Vancouver-Granville, a youth health and wellness service, has outgrown its current space after over eight years of operation. To support the clinic’s relocation, Providence Healthcare partnered with the Vancouver Design Nerds (VDN) to host a community engagement event, launching the Foundry’s Community Leadership Table.
Goal
This event brought together around 20 participants, including youth, service users, and leadership, to identify and address service gaps in the clinic’s redevelopment.
Engagement Approach
Using the Double Diamond framework, VDN facilitated the event with active listening exercises, icebreakers, and collaborative small-group sessions. Participants used ‘Asset Maps’ to connect over shared concerns, clustered insights to identify key themes, and generated solutions by framing “How might we…?” questions.
The day concluded with participants sharing ideas for how integrated services could better support youth in Vancouver.
Outcomes
The event strengthened relationships and clarified the role of the Community Leadership Table in the redevelopment process, while providing the redevelopment team with community priorities and potential service delivery partnerships.
